I love to play in the studio, and during the past year of social distancing I've had a great opportunity to spend some serious alone time just creating. Playing with lights and liquids and reflections and all sorts of different ideas. For this shot I wanted to create the effect of a drop of liquid metal splashing into a lake of aluminum under a stormy sky. This shot was a little complicated to setup, but it was a lot of fun to make, and once I got it figured out it was just a lot of trial and error and getting the timing right (I used laser beams!). You'll have to wait a while to see how I end up using it in a finished image.

There's no photoshop in this, just the some basic color grading to get the look I was going for and some (mostly) basic stuff that was lying around in the studio.

No BTS photo on this one, you'll have to figure it our for yourselves, but I did use 3 Profoto B1x’s and shot it with my Sony A7rii and the Sony 90mm f/2.8 Macro lens.

Scroll down if you want to see the original shot from the camera with no processing, and as always let me know your thoughts in the comments below.
