Aaron Chase - Wall Ride

This is an image that could have turned out really well, but I messed it up. This overpass was in town and it was in deep shadows, so I needed more light. But I was in a rush to set this up as quickly as possible to avoid any hassles with police or security so I decided to use only one light, and I didn't meter it. In today's world of digital photos I would have taken one quick shot and immediately seen the issue, but with film I didn't know I'd screwed this one up til I was home and had the film back from the lab.

Shot on Fuji Velvia with my trusty Nikon F5 and a couple of Nikon Speedlights. The light on the right of the frame is just a wee bit too hot, something that has bugged me about this shot endlessly. I didn't take time to meter a lot of street shots back in the day, I knew how far away the lights needed to be for a certain exposure, and I just figured it out in my head. Some how I screwed this one up... Still a good shot, but this is one of the shots that made me really think about how to improve what I was doing with lighting and flash.
